Borovets resort

Borovets is the oldest and the biggest mountain resort in Bulgaria. It is situated at 1350 m above sea level on the northern slopes of Rila mountain among magnificent pinewoods at the foot of Musala top (2925 m above sea level), which is the highest on the Balkan Peninsula. The resort is located at a distance of 73 km from Sofia and 125 km from Plovdiv, so it is easy to reach it! Samokov lies at 10 km from Borovets and is the nearest city to it.


Borovets was found in 1896 by prince Ferdinand, who has built his summer residence and a lot of summer cottages there. Nowadays Borovets is a developed and modern-skiing resort of the highest class with up-to-date hotels, restaurants, clubs, shops and excellent mountain lift circuit. Borovets is an Alpine type resort and offers necessary means for all winter sports — mountain-skiing, cross-country, mountain-ski jumping and biathlon.


Borovet's hills are covered with snow from December to April. Snow thickness is not more than 1.5 m. Borovets air is crystal-clear. Average temperature is −4.6 °C in January.

There are tracks of different difficulty degree and can be suitable to everyone, even to beginners.


Track scheme:

  • cross-country and biathlon — at 2 km from the resort;
  • mountain-ski jumping — at 75 m and 50 m from Alpin Hotel.

Borovets disposes good-organized lift circuit, including 1 gondola-lift.

  • green tracks — for beginners;
  • red tracks — are of a middle difficulty;
  • black tracks — for professionals.

Night skating is available in Borovets starting from 2002—2003 winter season. Tracks #2 and #3 next to the Martinovi Baraki lift are illuminated every night from 5 pm to 10 pm. All lifts and artificial-snow machines burn the midnight oil!

Rest and entertainment

There is a huge amount of bars, coffeehouses, nightclubs and discos — nightlife is in full swing. A lot of them work till the early morning and offer suitable prices and special discount «Happy Hour». Like in best European clubs, international music is played everywhere. Bulgarian national music is played and «khoro» is danced in restaurants and taverns.


Medical and dental services

Ski-patrol works twenty-four-hour. There are ambulance cars and field hospitals with doctors and nurses on the tracks. Fully equipped hospitals are in Samokov. Dentists and drug stores work in Borovets. Some medical and dental services are paid in cash. Doctors give all required bills, recipes and invoices, which describe services and prices for further appeal to the insurance company. We advice you always to appeal to the insurance companies.
